My teaching philosophy comes from the perspective of a chronic learner and the influence of some of my own favorite teachers (Greg Wilson, Marty Lobdell, and Scott H. Young to name a few). I’ve been teaching myself coding since the 5th grade and began formally teaching others in the 8th grade as a private clarinet instructor. My goal as an instructor is to empower others with the tools to overcome their own learning obstacles to reach their personal goals. I prefer teaching with specific, relevant examples over generic ones, and base my lessons on having students frequently practice concepts hands-on with continuous feedback. I have a variety of experience teaching one-on-one to groups of over one-hundred, and am a certified RStudio Instructor. You can find some examples of my lessons below, and can contact me for private mentoring or guest workshops.
Previous Workshops
Presented in Fall of 2020, these workshops were created as part of my role as the Education Director of the Big Data and Analytics Association (BDAA) at Ohio State University. They are intended to be accessible to anyone at the college level or above. The four lessons on R are part of a data analytics bootcamp and build upon each other.
Resources (slides, code, etc.) for the workshops can be found on the BDAA Github.
